I persevered today! After the shortened bike trip this morning (because of a flat tire), and after getting the tire fixed and recovering for a bit, I hit the road again. I drove back out the 40 minutes to get a full ride in for the day! I started this afternoon at 350 E Street, where I had ended my short morning ride. There was parking on the southeast side, and I took the trail to the south of the canal which follows the main channel (the trail on the north side here turns and follows the feeder canal). The feeder canal and main canal converge a short distance from the start of this afternoon's journey. At the convergence, the two canals form a wide-open basin, a beautiful blue space with white cloud reflections! The main canal then "continues" east and the feeder canal "goes" north. After passing the basin, the trail crosses over to the north side of the main canal. I really enjoy biking the Hennepin because each section has something new and interesting. Besides the convergence, this section included areas where the canal was wider and river-like and more open to the nearby fields. The path had sections of both worn asphalt/gravel and just fine gravel and some areas under repair. I haven't talked about this before, but I have seen lots of butterflies and grasshoppers along the way. Some seem to join me for a while as I go down the trail. They are fun to watch. It was good to go back and finish the day's goal!
