310 E St to 350 E St by Sheffield about 0.6 miles (flat tire!) August 17 2021 morning

When I have told people about my biking adventures, some have asked me what I would do if I got a flat tire, well today I found out, I'd walk my bike back to the car!  They have also asked what I would do if I had an injury!  I may need to consider carrying a tire repair kit and an emergency first aid kit, but I would also have to learn how to fix a tire!  Fortunately, I hadn't gotten too far from the car before the tire became flat due to a small nail or tack (although I had driven 40 minutes to get to the starting point).  Despite all of this, the day began well.  The drive, although long, was scenic and the put-in spot was very interesting.  There were three places to park. The southwest side had parking and a boat ramp.  The southeast side had parking, outhouses, camping spots with old metal grills, and picnic tables.  The northeast side is adjacent to the bike path and also has parking and camping spots,  I parked in the southeast section and rode my bike on the grass and over the canal on the bridge for the lock and dam to get to the bike path.  The lock had the gears still present for opening and closing the gates.  Stay on the metal parts of the bridge deck if you cross it because some of the wood floor was rotted.  I wonder if this is where I got the tack.  The path itself was worn asphalt/gravel.  When I came to the first street crossing, 350 E St road bridge, I missed the sign that said to turn right for the main canal and visitor center and instead kept going straight.  I got to the part where the feeder canal and main canal meet, a large water basin.  It was here that I looked at google maps and realized I had taken the wrong path (I should have crossed to the south side of the canal,  and went back.  I may bike the feeder canal later, but my goal, for now, is the main channel. I also shortly after that realized that my tire was flat and I needed to just go back to the car.   Along the way, I saw another great blue heron which flew away too fast to take a picture. I got back in the car fine and went to get my tire fixed. I need to give a shout-out to B & B equipment store in Geneseo who was so nice and fixed my tire very quickly while I waited so that I can be on the trail again soon!
