Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park to Lock 21 Campground near Sheffield about 5.4 miles Aug 22 2021

Second flat tire! This time was worse than the first. I had made it to the turnaround point and had just started back when it happened, so it was a long way back to the car walking my bike in the heat.  Not fun! I still haven't gotten a repair kit or learned how to fix a flat but I really need to!  Up to that point, however, it was a great time! Today's ride starting out at the Hennepin Canal State Park.  There is a visiting center, picnicking, boat ramp, and equestrian area.  This is the link to where I parked, which was by the bridge I stopped at on the last trip.  I did this section on a Sunday so the visitor center was closed.  I went back later to look inside.  There were many brochures of the area and maps of the canal.  The staff were very nice and answered my questions.  They have pictures of the history of the canal, models of the canal, information about local animals, and old tools that were used to dig the canal.  I really enjoyed my visit. The ride itself was beautiful, too.  It started out with a shady forested area, which I really appreciated on my long walk back. The path became less shaded and opened up to views of sunny skies, and a wide canal.  Along the way, there were some signs posted No smoking - Peat area.  This was a new one for me.
