E 2200th St to N 1920th St, north of Atkinson, about 2.9 miles August 5, 2021

Today's trip was more fun because I had my friend Monica join me on my journey! I led her astray right from the start when we parked in the wrong location. We originally parked in a grassy area on the southeast corner of the canal off E2200th street but when we tried to bike to the trail, we found a guard rail across the bridge preventing us from getting to the path underneath the road.  I then noticed there was a driveway entrance north of the canal (located here) on the west side of the street.  We biked down there and found a paved parking lot attached to the bike trail.  This is where you should park! The trail today seemed almost like a mixture of two areas.  The first felt wide open.  There were few trees lining the path and canal, instead, we were biking surrounded by cornfields.  For the second part of the trip, the trees were present again and it felt more like biking through a forest. Along the way, we inadvertently scared several great blue herons by biking by them but they are always fun to watch. We also passed another lock and dam that had its wooden gates present at both ends.  Unfortunately, this caused a backup of a lot of duckweed which gave off a foul order noticeable when close to the lock and dam. Otherwise, a beautiful ride.  Additionally, if you are fond of boating, we passed a paved boat ramp off E2300th street.
